Michael Ball

Michael Ball (ballandchain.ca) has been performing and recording on the Canadian music scene for years with his own projects that run the gamut from old country and alt country to cajun and zydeco and from bluegrass to American Old-time. Michael has performed and recorded with numerous Canadian artists including Danielle Martineau, Michael Jerome Browne, Peter Dawson, Jennifer Noxon, and Finest Kind;

Kimberley Holmes

Kimberley Holmes, one of Canada’s premier piano accompanists in traditional music, is returning to AlgomaTrad after a few years hiatus. With 20 years of teaching experience both privately and in groups, Kimberley is in demand as an instructor on both piano and fiddle.

Ariel Hyatt

Champion Canadian stepdancer and world music percussionist, Ariel Hyatt, wowed last year’s staff concert audience with her beautiful and mind-blowing stepdance performance. Besides Ontario Old-Time stepdance instruction, Ariel will offer workshops in Turkish drumming and middle-eastern rhythms. Ariel received a Canada Council for the Arts Professional Development Grants in 2014 and 2015 to study in Istanbul, Turkey, and continues to push the boundaries of stepdance by incorporating these rhythms into her work.

Joseph Phillips

Bassist/guitarist Joseph Phillips (Pierre Schryer Band, London Symphony Orchestra, Jayme Stone’s Lomax Project) has been part of the AlgomaTrad team for several years, leading group arrangement classes and sharing his love of swing guitar playing.

Lea Kirstein

The wonderful Lea Kirstein returns to AlgomaTrad to once again offer her exuberance and experience in group arrangements and chopping and groove techniques for bowed instruments. Reenie Perkovic will offer her gifts of songwriting and guitar playing. Lea and Reenie perform together in the group Citizen Jane.

James Stephens

Other staff members are: the ever-amazing multi-instrumentalist James Stephens, a core member of the AlgomaTrad organization; first-time-for-AlgomaTrad caller, Drake Meadow, from Ann Arbor, Michigan who will bring his enthusiasm and experience with a variety of forms of community dance to the evening dances and dance workshops;

all the members of local award-winning group The O’Schraves; and the most excellent piper Paul McClelland from Deep River who has once again generously offered to give instruction on the Highland Pipes, small pipes, and tin whistle.
