AlgomaTrad Senior Artist Online Series
single post
AlgomaTrad is pleased to announce that it has been awarded funding through the Government of Ontario’s Seniors Community Grant Program to support a free online initiative for senior participants that will feature senior artists from the Central and East Algoma region. (COMMUNIQUÉ DE PRESSE en franccais, est disponible ici) The final details and schedule for the program, to run through late January into March, are presently being finalized but the online program will feature demonstrations, workshops, mini-concerts, and art and music sharing sessions. Some of the artists who will be involved in the program are master woodworker/artist Errol Caldwell, weaver Sarah Buckley, visual artist Conrad Bobiwash, quilter Patty Hoogendoorn, felting and fibre artist Mireille Gagnon Moes, old-time country music group “Schryer Country”, French-Canadian group “Les Anges de la Campagne”, basket maker Terryl Ryan, and more.
All events will occur on Zoom and AlgomaTrad will provide coaching to seniors interested in the program but unfamiliar with how the online Zoom platform works. Some of the presentations will give participants an opportunity to learn or try a heritage arts project led by the artist, and materials will be provided. Other offerings will be demonstrations of arts practice and joyful sharing of music that will encourage participants to ask questions, dance, sing along while muted, and request favourite songs. The program’s intent is for seniors to feel connected to community in the safety of their own homes and residences.
Several artists from the AlgomaTrad Senior Artist Online Outreach program will also be involved in a mentorship program for youth through local schools.
While the Senior Artist Online Outreach program will be free to all participants, registration will be required and space may be limited in some hands-on workshop-type classes.
