All workshops occur at the AlgomaTrad Centre, 1249 F&G Line, St. Joseph Island.

Introduction to Blacksmithing w/ Denis Frechette, 3 Classes, July 13, 20, 27.

  • Ages 14 and up. $30/person per class, includes all materials.
  • Wednesday, July 13, 5-9pm – Forging simple shapes from a bar. Project – Simple Wall Hook
  • Wednesday, July 20, 5-9pm – Assembling more complicated items. Project – Candle Holder
  • Wednesday, July 27, 5-9pm – Shaping Metal at The Workbench. Project – Basic Cabinet Hardware

Intro to Stepdancing w/ Kyle Waymouth, July 14, 19, 26, August 02

  • 4 classes, one in person, three streamed live on a large screen at the AlgomaTrad Pavilion. Learn the basics of stepdancing from a 5-time Canadian Open Champion Step Dancer!
  • Thursday, July 14, 4-5pm (in Person), Tuesdays July 19, 26, Aug 02, 4-5pm
  • Program open to 7 years and up. Under 13 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Special Music Workshops w/ Shane Cook and the Woodchippers, July 14

  • July 14, 4pm. By donation
  • 45-minute workshops available in Fiddle, guitar accompaniment, and mandolin, for novice/intermediate level players of all ages

AlgomaTrad Community Dance, Saturday, July 16, 7-10pm, AlgomaTrad Pavilion

It’s been a long 2 years with no dancing! So, let’s give it a try! Don’t come if you don’t feel well, but other than that, it’s time to start dancing again in the great outdoors on a beautiful summer evening! Contras and squares with caller Rodney Martin, music by Benoit, Zach, Julie, and Pat! All welcome, no experience necessary. No registration required.

Mending Night w/ Thinking Rock Community Arts, Wednesday, July 20

  • Wednesday, July 20, 7pm – Join the mending circle while enjoying in the Open Music Session!
  • A gathering for all ages and abilities to craft community by exploring the textile traditions of Algoma, co-create collaborative art projects, and consider themes of mending and interweaving in art, life and community. No experience necessary, everyone is welcome! Materials supplied or bring your favourite supplies, objects to mend, or works in progress to show and share
  • NO registration required.

Eco-Printing w/ Dawn Allard, July 22, 10am-2pm

  • Friday, July 22, 10-2pm, with a break for lunch. Cost – $30/person includes supplies
  • Eco printing creates prints of leaves and plants on silk or paper by either steaming or submersion and using natural dyeing techniques. (Please see full workshop description).

Youth Acoustic Night – Friday, July 22, 7-10pm

  • An evening for local youth to share their songs or tunes in a welcome and comfortable atmosphere. No admission to register or listen! All welcome.
  • Friends and family welcome to attend, please spread the word once you are registered.

Session!

Open Music Session Nights– Wednesday evenings until August 03.

  • Come join and share tunes in this open session for traditional music. Slow session from 7-8, then up to speed until 9pm. At the same time, the Centre will be available for a mending session, with Thinking Rock Community Arts leading a special project on July 20
  • Open session, no cost, no registration required.

The AlgomaTrad Family Camp, August 08-14 is filling up fast! Register now if you want to attend. Music, dance, heritage arts, all ages, lots of fun and lots to learn! Also, the Annual AlgomaTrad Staff Concert Extraordinaire occurs on Thursday, August 11, 7:30pm at the Richards Landing Centennial Grounds. Save the date! More info soon.
