AlgomaTrad Receives Grant from 2020 MusiCounts TD Community Music Program

AlgomaTrad is thrilled to announce that it is one of 37 recipients from across Canada to receive a grant from the 2020 MusiCounts TD Community Music Program. The grant, worth $20,000, will allow AlgomaTrad to purchase a variety of musical instruments and to recondition its library of stringed instruments. The instruments will allow AlgomaTrad to scale up its music program offerings to local learners. Some of the programs will include: expanding the existing music experience program for young children and parent(s); establish a bagpipe program for youth in the local region; expand AlgomaTrad’s ability to provide more beginner programs for aspiring fiddlers, pianists, and cello players; expand Irish Tin whistle classes/programs and provide an opportunity for whistle players to graduate to Irish flute as well; and implement a new program in ukulele. Instruments like tin whistle and ukulele are perfect entry instruments for aspiring young (or old!) musicians. Plans are presently being made to offer these programs in the New Year, and will depend to some degree on restrictions surrounding the present Covid emergency.

The MusiCounts TD Community Music Program is made possible through the generous support of TD Bank. TD believes that one of the best ways to support communities is by investing in music and helping build access to music, as a way to create shared experiences and learning for life. MusiCounts is honoured to work with TD on this impactful initiative. Since 2013, the MusiCounts TD Community Music Program has supported 214 community organizations with a total of 3.2 million in musical instruments and equipment. This has benefitted tens of thousands of youth, and enabled organizations to expand and grow their music programming in ways that would otherwise not be possible.
