It might be a little like this–except on the city streets!

If you head to Queen Street in the Sault  next Thursday, July 18th,  you’ll find you won’t be able to get through between Pim Street and Dennis Street. The traffic will have a sudden change from cars to humans as the street will be crowded with people.  The O’Schraves will be there from 7:30 to 9:30 in the second square leading an AlgomaTrad Street Dance… by that, of course meaning an all-ages square/contra dance in the street, not to be confused with street breakdancers or anything (far more fun than that!) The dance will be led by AlgomaTrad caller Dan Gorno and should be an exciting opportunity to experience traditional culture in the middle of downtown Sault Ste. Marie on such a huge scale!  Other cultural events will be occurring  along the street as well, with several big tents featuring unique drinks and many different performers.  Parking will be north of Bay Street around Bingham Street between Spring and Brock, which is nice and close to the dance.  It should be an engaging event for the public, young and old alike, and will be a great way to show many people just how much fun traditional music and dance can be!

Wildwood Soul on Thursday, August 1

The Wildwood Soul trio of Zachary Schryer-Lefebvre, Benoit Schryer-Lefebvre and Lorissa Scriven, will be in Sowerby beyond Thessalon, performing in the fabulous Historical 12-Sided Barn on Basswood Lake Road just off of highway 17.  Doors open at 7pm and the show gets underway at 7:30.  Tickets are $15 and if you bring children under 12, they are welcome at no cost, so come on down to experience some wild soul on the wood floors of this beautiful barn!  You can find out more information about the band here, and you should also check out this really neat video too!

Té Band in Toronto, End of July

Toronto has its own excitement coming up too!  If you’re going to be in the area around the end of July, Emilyn Stam, who is a former AlgomaTrad staff member, and her band will be hosting some exciting workshops and concerts.  All information can be found in the poster below (click on the picture to see the full size)
