AlgomaTrad is pleased to introduce some very special guests who will perform as part of the 8th AlgomaTrad Trivia Night FUNdraiser, Saturday, April 10, 7PM. The AlgomaTrad Trivia Night has always been made special by the live musical performances that occur between rounds of Trivia. This year is no different! The mighty guitarist/bassist/singer Joseph Phillips, a perennial loved staff member at the AlgomaTrad Family Camp, will perform. Joe (sometimes known as Al-Joe-maTrad) has carved out a career as one of Canada’s most versatile double bassists. Currently playing with Art of Time Ensemble, The London Symphonia, Jayme Stone’s Lomax Project and Payadora Tango Ensemble, he has also played and recorded both bass and guitar with Pierre Schryer, Shane Cook, Nuala Kennedy, Sarah Slean, David Braid, Andrew Downing, Miranda Mulholland, Jill Barber, Ruth Moody and the Wailin’ Jennys. An accomplished classical musician, Joe has been the principal bassist of Orchestra London Canada, Sinfonia Toronto and the Thunder Bay Symphony, and has performed with the Toronto Symphony, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Canadian Opera Company and many other ensembles. Joe is also an accomplished swing-style guitarist and a vocalist whose repertoire ranges from Tom Waits to Portugese folk songs.

AlgomaTrad has always featured emerging and youth artists as part of its programming and for this year’s Trivia Night we are super pleased to welcome Jackson Reed. Jackson is no stranger to the Sault music scene. He has been playing the guitar for 10 years and has been studying classical, jazz guitar and songwriting at Algoma University with Frank Deresti for the past four years. Jackson is currently a guitar instructor at Long and McQuade in the Sault and he has recently been overseeing the organization of Clusterfolk, an online music festival that is meant to empower young artists in the community during National Youth Arts Week.

Eloise Phillips is another young artist who will perform as part of the musical program. Eloise’s ukulele and singing voice are no strangers to the AlgomaTrad Community – she has been sharing her unique musical talents at the Family Camp since she was very young. Eloise taught ukulele during this year’s Winter Online Learning and Sharing Program. She is also a wonderful visual artist – you can find her on Instagram as @possumscribbles.
