Community Colours Project at the First Dance of 2020

Join in on AlgomaTrad’s Community Colours project at the First Dance of 2020, Friday, January 03, 2020! Community artist Miranda Bouchard will lead participants in embroidering large, patchwork banners made of reclaimed and recycled fabrics that were naturally dyed during AlgomaTrad 2019. No experience is required! All are welcome to participate; very young folks are encouraged to bring an adult helper.

These banners will adorn the AlgomaTrad site and events, and showcase the breadth of colour that can be achieved using natural dye material found in our pantries and backyards. Concurrently, we’ve been working to establish a permanent community dye garden at the AlgomaTrad site that will foster deep connections to the land and the co-creation of beautiful objects, made with an eye to time-honoured methods, materials and, importantly, motivation: coming together to make things and, in the process, to build community.
