Virtual Trivia Night a FUNtastic FUNdraiser!

single post

AlgomaTrad’s Fall Trivia Night FUNdraiser on Friday, November 19th, was a grand success! A hardworking Trivia Night Committee, fourteen volunteer hosts, and 3 Quizmasters all provided a great night of pleasant competition and raised $2500 for the organization!

AlgomaTrad Trivia Night Winners, November 2021

All’s Fair in Love & Trivia, Trivia Champs!

Thanks to the 14 teams (over 100 participants!) of eager trivialists from BC to Nova Scotia and down to Utah and over to Minneapolis! The competition was fierce – it was a close one! – and the winning team was, for the very first time, All’s Fair in Love and Trivia from Toronto (via Ireland in some cases – that’d be Denis, Ann, and Alina Lyons, Jan Hogg, Joel Shore, Sharon Armstrong, Carolyn McAnulty, and Sarah Fairweather).  The winning team can donate their entry fees to the charity of their choice and this year’s winners have graciously donated their fees back to AlgomaTrad.  Thank you you to everyone for your ongoing support!!!

Very special thanks to our volunteer performers for the evening –Kyle Burghout and Jane Cory – award-winning Canadian fiddlers who have JUST released their first duo CD; Hannah Shirah Naiman – Traditional Singer of the Year at the 2017 Canadian Folk Music Awards who performed a couple of songs with her Dad, the great Arnie Naiman; and Josh Morehouse – a local youth performer who started his musical journey with Julie Schryer and is now composing music, performing, and releasing his own CD!

Big thanks to our Quizmasters: Steve Dominy, Jerry Kroetsch, and Stephen Cooper; to our Trivia Night organizing and tech committee led by Board members Barb Willoughby and Sarah Fleming; and to the 14 team hosts, many of them local youth – we couldn’t make it happen without all these amazing volunteers!

The long-term plan is to hold an in-person Trivia Night (once we can do such a thing safely) AND one online Trivia Night each year – it’s such a great way to spend time with family and friends from across the continent AND raise funds for AlgomaTrad! See you next year!!!
