Trivia Tornadoes, 2019 Masters of Trivia

The 7th Annual AlgomaTrad Trivia Night FUNdraiser at the Legion Hall in Richards Landing was a great success. Fifteen teams competed on April 26 for the bragging rights to be the 2019 Masters of Trivia and have their team name inscribed on the Trivia Night Champions Plaque. Each member of the team was presented as well with a tree seedling to plant, thanks to a donation by Peter Gagnon of Simply Superior Services. This year the Trivia Tornadoes (a fourth-from-last finisher from last year…hmmmm, they must have found some ringers this year…) prevailed with a score of 47 out of a possible 50. Over $3300 after expenses was raised for the AlgomaTrad Centre Building Fund.

Throughout the evening Trivia players were entertained by some wonderful performances by local musicians including the AlgomaTrad Session Group, Guy Smith (accompanied by Julie Schryer, Pat O’Gorman, Zach Lefebvre, and Áine Schryer O’Gorman), youth fiddlers Anna Biron and Anna Reich, and Wild and Free, a trio made up of Eric Lawrence, Rod Martin, and Zach Lefebvre. We wish to thank all the performers who offered up their time and talents for the success of the evening.

We would also like to thank all the volunteers especially Quiz Master Gina Marie Wilson for all her hard work; food organizers Melanie Dorscht, Barb Willoughby, and Amy Reich; scorekeepers Adam Robinson, Riley Broks, Borden Bell, and Sarah Bowyer; and all those who helped with setting up tables and chairs and cleaning up as well. Special thanks to  the St. Joseph Island Coffee Roasters, Island Clippings, and the North Channel Current for their continued support, and to all of you who donated items to a very successful silent auction.

Finally, a big shout out to Thomas Grabowski of Michigan, who donated the price of a table to the fundraiser in the “name of Dan Gorno’s greatness”. Thank you Tom, your generosity is very much appreciated and Dan would have been chuffed.
