The Rivers Speak Community Play, September 6-9 and 13-16
single post
For the last 4 years AlgomaTrad has worked with Thinking Rock Community Arts (TRCA) to develop music for the TRCA community play “Gigidoowag Ziibiik (The Rivers Speak)“. We are pleased to announce that the play is opening on September 6th and running until September 16th at the Mississauga First Nation Pow Wow Grounds north of Blind River on Hwy 557, and will include music developed at AlgomaTrad and performed by The O’Schraves, James Stephens, Anishnaabe Singers and Drummers, and others, including some AlgomaTrad campers!
There is a cast of 30 community members, the youngest is 6 and the oldest is 80+! The show features live original music, stilt-walking, square dancing, round dancing, and larger-than-life puppets – all based on stories shared by hundreds of local people. It also celebrates Anishnaabe teachings, language, traditions and ceremony. This play has been a magical journey with hundreds participating in its making and brings together First Nations and Settler stories, musicians, dancers, actors, designers, and production staff, both professional and amateur, in an art making process that celebrates sharing and reconciliation. Now its time for an audience to share in the magic! All of us here at AlgomaTrad would love it if you could find your way to come see it.
Tickets are Pay What You Can and you can reserve them with Eventbrite here.
You can also join the facebook event here.
See photos from the rehearsal process on Instagram here.

Whether or not you are able to make it, it would mean so much to us if you would encourage others you know to reserve tickets for the show.
