single post

The 14th Annual Algoma Traditional Music, Dance, and Heritage Arts Family Camp 2017 (AlgomaTrad 2017) is OPEN FOR REGISTRATION. The camp runs from Sunday evening, August 13 to Saturday morning, August 19. Check out complete information about AlgomaTrad 2017 HERE.

Complete AlgomaTrad 2017 staff bios and photos can be found at under the TEAM tab at https://algomatrad.ca/camp/ but we wanted to let you know about a couple more instructors who are coming to camp this year.

Blacksmith Denis Frechette has been working at his craft for over 40 years and will bring his wealth of knowledge to AlgomaTrad in our first Blacksmith course. This immersive session, similar to those we have done in Dry Stone Walling and Canoe Building, will not only give basic instruction in blacksmithing but will include building and preparing work benches and basic tools needed to set up a Forge at the permanent site of AlgomaTrad.

Our Basketry program last year was a big success and many of the participants expressed their desire to develop their skills further. Your request is our demand…so we are excited to have Terryl Ryan, a Northern Ontario artist, to join our community this year. You might have seen some of Terryl’s beautiful work at Wabi Sabi in Richards Landing. Terryl has adapted many of the traditional Shaker Basket styles for today’s uses. When available, she incorporates natural materials into her baskets, and finishes them with a stain she makes from walnut husks.
