The O’Schraves CD Is IN! Time for a Release Party or Two…

Hey everyone!!!

Family Day Cover hi-rezWe  are super pleased to announce the release of our first CD “Family Day” and will celebrate the release with two North Shore area concerts, one in Sault Ste Marie and one in Little Rapids. Over two years in the making and just in time for the holiday season (hint, hint), the CD features The O’Schraves’ unique mixture of Ontario, French Canadian, Irish, and Scottish traditional music mixed with compositions created by members of the band and their friends from the Canadian Trad community. On Thursday, December 19, at 7PM, The O’Schraves will perform at the Moose Hall, 543 Trunk Rd. in Sault Ste. Marie in a Concert/Dance show. The evening will begin with a concert by the band of material from the new CD followed by an AlgomaTrad family contra/square dance with caller Dan Gorno. On Sunday, December 22, at 2PM, The O’Schraves will perform a concert followed by a potluck supper at the Thessalon Township Community Hall in Little Rapids, 4 Little Rapids Rd; the public is invited to bring a potluck item and stick around for supper with the band. Admission to either event is $10, or $5 for children, available at the door.

For those of you who can’t make the gigs and still want a CD, you can send $20 to:  The O’Schraves, RR#2, Desbarats, ON P0R 1E0. You can also go to our O’Schrave page here and order a CD. We are still setting up a way for folks to buy MP3’s of tracks as well as having a link so you can listen to a couple of tracks before you do buy (and then surely you won’t resist!)!

The O’Schraves (algomatrad.ca/The-O-Schraves) bring you entertainment that is joyous, skillful, inspiring, and fun. Two of Canada’s finest traditional musicians, Julie Schryer (Pierre Schryer Band, Brian Pickell Band), on piano, and Pat O’Gorman (Rare Air, Brian Pickell Band), on bagpipes, Irish flute and tin whistle, are more than ably assisted by the younger members of the family, Benoit Schryer Lefebvre, 19, (2011 and 2012 winner of the 18 and under Pembroke Fiddle Contest) on fiddle, tenor banjo, tin whistle and vocals; Zach Schryer Lefebvre, 22, on his own handmade guitar, cello, tin whistle, piano and vocals; and Áine Schryer O’Gorman, 11, (2012 winner of the 9 and under Pembroke Fiddle Contest) on fiddle, stepdancing, tin whistle, and vocals. The O’Schraves have been performing concerts around Ontario, Quebec and Michigan for seven years and for dances at the AlgomaTrad Family Camp, for the Bayside Travelers’ contra dances in Traverse City, Michigan, the Toronto Country Dancers’ Contra Dances, and the Owen Sound Spring Fling Dance weekend. Complete individual bios are available here.

The upcoming year appears to be a busy one for the band as they are scheduled to perform with the Sault Symphony Orchestra in February and perform a tour in the USA in February/March which will take them down to North Carolina. They have also been invited to perform at Blissfest Folk & Roots Music Festival in Goodheart, Michigan in July.
